Skin loss
My friends female leo has started today to loose her skin due to a bacterial infection. I´ve never seen it before but i have read about it. I have this specimen with me now and i treat her with JBL Furanol2 (Nifurpirinol) and it seems it has stopped.
Should i do anything else?, what can i do to help her to regenerate the skin?, it will stop with only one dose, or should i do another one?. Any of you have had the same problem?.
I will post some pics as soon as possible.
Best regards

Re: Skin loss
Hard to advise without the picture. Did he have the stingray for a long time already?

Re: Skin loss
Yes. She was moved to a temporary tank for exhibition purposes in an Aquarium event here in Barcelona, but 10 hours after her arrival she showed the first signs of skin loss. I took some pics yesterday as she seems to be getting better. The treatment stopped the infection and after a few hours she started to regenerate some skin. She is still loosing all the death skin but i think she will make it. Lets wait a few days and we´ll see.
I´ll post some pics of her and her wound tonight.
My friend had have the same problem in the past, 15 years ago with another animal, but that one passed away in 24h.

Re: Skin loss
When stressed or moved in water with different water parameters, los of the 'slime layer' is seen more often. Usually not a longer term problem. Did you manage to shoot the pics?

Re: Skin loss
She did not loose her slime coat, she lost her skin. She is alive and almost fully recovered although she´s gonna live without a piece of her face wich i dont think she could regenerate. I have taken almost 150 pics of the hole process. I´ll post some in my stingray web site, and some other here in a post to help others to avoid this problem. Dont know when but i will.
Thanks for asking !!!!!

Re: Skin loss
Good to hear she pulled through
Yes pic's would be helpful I think for anyone that may come across this in the future, also how you treated her.
Thanks

Re: Skin loss
There is a lot of pics, is there another way to upload the pics than going through Photobucket or similar?, or this is the only way?.
I treated her with Furanol2 from JBL and the infection stopped almost immediately. My friend noticed that she started to loose the skin on Oct 1 (saturday) around 10am, 3hours later she has loose almost 50cm2 of skin from beneath the disc and a few pieces from above. At this time i put her in my QT tank ant treated her. On Oct2 at 9am she was starting to regenerate the skin in the round wounds of the upper side of the disc. 17 days after she is almost completely recovered and she has no patches at all, and there is no skin missing anywhere.
